Source of Protein?

Submitted by seemas on Thu, 12/27/2007 - 23:35.

Hey all.

Thanks to Crohn's disease, I have become moderately lactose intolerant.
Whey protein makes me feel slightly sick, and I need a new source of
quick protein. Since I do have Crohn's disease, it also cannot have any
fiber in it, so soy may be out as well (I am not sure if all soy
protein is high in fiber). I remember seeing whey protein that like 96%
lactose free, but I can no longer find it.

Any advice?

Have you tried Optimum

Have you tried Optimum Nutrition's 100% whey? I'm lactose intolerant as well and it's very easy on my digestive system.

Have you tried whey protein

Have you tried whey protein isolate (what you might be thinking)? It is 99%+ whey protein, very, very little lactose/fat. Most powders are a mix of isolates and concentrates (which has a bit of lactose in it) so as to meet a half way point between price and quality.
Also look into Branch Chain amino acid supplements, they can boost the protein value of any of your meals tremendously and contain no lactose/fiber at all.

There are also protein

There are also protein powders made from peas and other vegetables. Mike Mahler's site had a couple to some. They are pricey compared to whey or soy products, though.

What is wrong with soy? I

What is wrong with soy? I didn't know that soybeans has fibre in it. I know it has a lot of protein though. Are you looking for natural proteins or the type that is syntheti, made for bodybuilders? If natural source is desired, then try rice milk. I don't think if has fibre, or very little, but it has protein in it.
